Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Pride Bank has officially launched its strategic partnership with Interswitch, marking a significant step in expanding access to convenient, secure and affordable banking services for customers across Uganda. The partnership brings together Pride Bank’s commitment to accessible financial services and Interswitch’s payments infrastructure to give customers more ways to access, manage and use their money- closer to where they love, work and do business.
Through this partnership, Pride Bank customers will benefit from two key solutions: Quickteller Agency Banking, which extends selected banking services through Interswitch’s network of more than 21,000 agents across Uganda, and the roll out of Pride Bank Verve Debit Cards, connecting customers to a wider network of ATMs and payment acceptance points. Through Quickteller Agency Banking, Pride Bank is extending selected banking services beyond traditional branches and closer to communities across Uganda. Customers can access everyday services including cash deposits, withdrawals, loan repayments and bill payments through participating in Quickteller agents, providing greater convenience for customers who may not be located near a Pride Bank branch.
For customers such as traders, farmers, small business owners and bodaboda riders, the service provides a practical way to manage everyday financial transactions while going about their business. The agency network also creates opportunities for participating businesses to offer financial services within their communities while generating additional income through commissions and increased customer traffic. Speaking at the launch, Veronica Namagembe, the Managing Director, Pride Bank, said the partnership reflects the Bank’s commitment to making financial services more accessible to the communities it services and responsive to the needs of its customers.
“At Pride Bank, we believe banking should fit into the lives of our customers rather than requiring our customers to organize their lives around banking. This partnership allows us to extend our reach, give our customers greater choice in how and where they access financial services. Whether it is a trader running a business, a farmer managing their income or a customer travelling across the country, we want Pride Bank to remain within reach,” said Namagemebe.
Verve Debit Cards To further enhance customer experience and convenience, Pride Bank is rolling out Verve Debit Cards to its customers, providing them with access to a broader payment and cash withdrawal network. Through the integration with the Interswitch network, Pride Bank Verve Cardholders will be able to access their money at more than 650 ATMs operated by financial institutions on the Interswitch network across Uganda. The Verve Card can also be used at more than 20,000 POS locations across Uganda, giving customers greater flexibility to pay for goods and services at participating merchants.
MD Namagembe: With Pride Ku Mulyango, Pride customers can now get Verve cards that can be used to transact and withdraw money, bringing greater convenience to everyday banking. Built on EMV chip-and-PIN technology, the Verve Card provides customers with a secure and convenient way to make everyday payments while expanding the number of locations where they can access and use their funds. Moris Seguya, Country Manager, Interswitch Uganda, said the partnership demonstrates the value of combining banking expertise with scalable payments infrastructure to deliver more customer-centric financial services.
“Our partnership with Pride Bank is about using technology and payments infrastructure to solve a very practical customer need – giving people more convenient ways to access and use their money. By connecting Pride Bank to Quickteller’s network of more than 21,000 agents and the broader Interswitch acceptance network, we are helping extend banking beyond traditional touchpoints and closer to where customers live and transact,” said Seguya. Interswitch’s role He added that Interswitch’s role extends beyond providing infrastructure, with the partnership designed to support Pride Bank’s ambitions around customer experience, innovation and sustainable growth.
“Interswitch brings together the infrastructure, payments expertise and ecosystem reach required to help financial institutions innovate at scale. We are proud to partner with Pride Bank because our capabilities complement its customer-first ambition – enabling the Bank to expand access, strengthen the everyday customer experience and create new opportunities for growth through connected payment solutions,” Seguya added. The partnership reinforces Pride Bank’s commitment to expanding financial services while giving customers greater choice in how they conduct their everyday banking.
Through the combined offering, customers can access selected banking services through Quickteller agents within their communities, while Verve Cardholders can use their cards across the wider Interswitch ATM and POS Network. Pride Bank and Interswitch will continue working together to deepen the customer experience and expand the value delivered through partnership as the solutions scale across Uganda.
